Topeka, KS. Jan. 15, 2010: Several Dickinson and Morris County residents have joined a chorus of voices across Kansas asking Kansas legislators to approve a smoke free law for Kansas in 2010. Residents in Herrington and Council Grove were among many Kansans who have shared their story about second hand smoke and how it has impacted their lives.
A Survey USA poll showed 65% of Kansans want a smoking ban in public places. The survey was conducted for KWCH-TV in Wichita.
The survey of 500 Kansans was released on January 13th, 2010. It showed that support for restrictions on smoking in public places has a 65% approval rating. Thirty-three percent opposed a ban and two percent were undecided.

In his State of the State address, Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson spoke of the importance of passing an effective clean indoor air law this year. Specifically he warned against a bill weakened by exemptions and loopholes. Last fall Governor Parkinson said he would sign a comprehensive smoke free bill into law if legislators send him a good bill.
Organizations across Kansas continue to join Clean Air Kansas in a collaborative effort to secure a smoke free state. The following organizations committed to a healthy Kansas recently have joined the Clean Air Kansas campaign. The goal is to have a Clean Indoor Air bill passed by the Kansas legislature in 2010.

The Wichita Hutchinson Labor Federation in September 2009 endorsed public policy efforts in Kansas to minimize involuntary exposure to secondhand smoke in the workplace and any other public indoor space where workers are exposed as part of their job. The Labor Federation of Central Kansas represents more than 30,000 members and their families.
